Carved white marble torso of Venus or Aphrodite, modelled as a bathing 'Venus Pudica' or 'Modest Aphrodite' with right hand holding a towel to her loins, her left arm shielding her breasts; with iron rod mark to neck and two drilled holes below the legs, truncated at the knee and thigh respectively, the whole in weathered condition and removed from a Hotwells, Bristol garden, approximately 104cm high This model closely resembles Canova's 'Hope Venus' (Leeds City Art Gallery) and another sold Christie's South Kensington 7th June 2000 lot 141

Condition: Extremely weathered condition with rough surface and green lichen/moss staining, would require significant cleaning, a torso fragment with no head, broken across the knees, right thigh truncated on the diagonal missing robe etc - Please see extra images and TELEPHONE department if you require further information SOLD AS SEEN
