Lots shine at Clevedon Salerooms

November 2012 Specialist Sale

Clevedon Salerooms Specialist Sale in November had many notable highlights proving that for the right items demand remains strong.  Online bidding and telephone bidding ensure that collectors based around the globe can purchase lots without ever having to leave their home!

A particularly large and seasonal offering of fine jewellery & watches created a great deal of interest with a diamond crossover ring totalling just over 5 carats diamond weight selling to a private buyer for £19,600.

Having considerably less weight in diamonds but with the cache of the Cartier name was a platinum eternity ring that found a London buyer willing to pay £4,660.

A gentleman's 18ct gold cased Rolex Oyster perpetual day-date wristwatch having conforming gold strap found a new home for £4,900.

The Oriental section catered for the insatiable appetite of buyers in this field with a carved Jade bangle selling for £1,700 and a Japanese silver shibuichi and enamel urn and cover standing 23.5cm high selling for £7,850.

A Chinese white metal figure of Shoulao together with a similar seated Buddha found a more than willing buyer at £2,940.

Amongst the paintings a new auction record was established for Lawrence Leifchild Toynbee (1922-2002) known for his paintings of football, cricket and rugby amongst other sports.  The £8,350 spent by a private collector to secure the painting entitled ‘The Rugby Match’ eclipsed the previous record of £5,000 established at Christies for  ‘Practice in the Nets’.

In a first for Clevedon Salerooms Quarterly Specialist Sale a Modern Design Furniture Section attracted a new breed of collectors with some good results for Danish and British mid 20th Century design.  A Maurice Burke for Arkana seven-piece ‘Tulip’ design dining suite sold for £1,590.

As the cold nights approach the sale finished with a Wine and Spirits section.  Temperatures rose when a bottle of 1966 Laphroaig single malt at 48.9% proof guaranteed to keep the frost at bay sold for £540.
