Banksy’s ‘Love Rat’ gnaws on bidders heartstrings
23rd November 2018
The Wiltshire vendor of this Banksy print titled Love Rat decided the time was right to offer this work purchased ten years ago. As one of an unsigned edition of 600, offered with its Pest Control certificate of authentication and original purchase receipt for £700, the 46cm x 32cm print was estimated at £3,000 - £4,000 in our November 2018 Quarterly Specialist Sale. Enquiries flooded in, helped not least by the recent shredding of a Banksy work at auction. Barneby’s, one of the auction platforms that host the Clevedon Salerooms auction catalogue said that Banksy is the most searched term on their website with 2,500 searches per day.
Two telephone bidders fought tooth and nail with the victor emerging at £9,200. If you have a Banksy that you may be thinking of selling, or perhaps you have a work that may need insuring, talk to Clevedon Salerooms.
When Irish Eyes are Smiling - Bristol Loyalists folio sells well at Clevedon Salerooms
Clevedon Salerooms held another successful fortnightly sale of Antiques and Collectables at the Kenn Road Auction Centre on Thursday 1st October, the first of three this month. Of both local and Irish interest was a Victorian folio of ‘Addresses of Irish Loyalists resident in Bristol and Neighbourhood 1889’. This was competed for by online bidders on both sides of the Irish Sea, with an Irish buyer securing it as a multiple-estimate £310.
